Job Description

Job Description

Company :

Epogee is a food innovation company committed to transforming the food system with dramatically lower-calorie ingredients that don’t compromise on taste or texture. Our flagship ingredient, EPG® (esterified propoxylated glycerol), is a patented fat alternative with 92% fewer calories than traditional fats. Backed by 60+ clinical studies and full GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status across major categories, we are scaling up production rapidly with top-tier manufacturing partners, regulatory support, and an expanding customer base across CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) and foodservice markets.

Note: Epogee is a subsidiary of Linus Technology. David is the other brand currently operating as a subsidiary of Linus Technology as well. While this role will be listed through David’s hiring channels, the Analytical Scientist (Chemist) will operate exclusively within Epogee’s independent team, leadership, and mission.

This role reports directly to the Director of R&D at Epogee.

Role and Responsibilities:

We’re looking for a detail-oriented, method-driven Analytical Scientist (Chemist) to lead physical and chemical testing in our R&D lab. You’ll ensure the quality, reproducibility, and performance of our ingredients — enabling our R&D and commercial teams to move faster with confidence.

This position is based in New York City (in-person, full-time) and will require initial immersion at our satellite lab in Clemson, SC for technical onboarding.

Responsibilities:

Analytical Testing

  • Execute tests for melting point, acid value, compositional analysis, oxidation stability, volatiles, and color
  • Synthesize test batches to validate new suppliers, study quality variables, and advance manufacturability objectives
  • Maintain and calibrate all lab instrumentation with precision and attention to detail
  • Facilitate external testing at third-party quality laboratories

Method Development

  • Build and validate SOPs for key analytical methods
  • Develop defensible techniques that support regulatory and product claims

Data Ownership

  • Ensure outputs of Epogee’s quality testing are reproducible, traceable, and scientifically rigorous
  • Summarize and share analytical results to guide technical and business decisions
  • Maintain data integrity and employ good documentation practices when performing experiments

Systems & Scale

  • Design systems for batch sampling, QC monitoring, and continuous improvement
  • Foster a robust documentation culture to support transfer of R&D learnings, effective quality management, and execution of manufacturing operations.

Strategic Contribution

  • Build and lead Epogee’s Cradle-to-Customer quality program to elevate performance across R&D, quality, and production
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

What You’ll Bring:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Food Science
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in lab-based analytical testing
  • Proficiency with various analytical instruments and method development techniques specific to fats and oils chemistry
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to scientific defensibility
  • Bonus: Experience to working with fats, oils, solvents, chemical synthesis, design of experiments, and statistics

Practicalities:

  • Initial lab work will take place at Epogee’s lab in Clemson, SC for ~1 year before the NYC lab is operational. Following lab setup, full-time, in-office role based in New York City — onsite five days a week.
  • Occasional travel will be required to support technical training and production-related activities across our partner network.
  • Compensation: $80,000 – $120,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Company equity opportunity on top of cash compensation.
  • 100% covered Health, Vision, Dental Insurance
  • 401(k) with 4% match
  • Additional perks, such as covered gym expenses
  • Substantial and required PTO
