Position Summary

As an EMT, your mission is to maximize effective unit hours to best serve our community with responsiveness and professionalism. Essential Job Functions
  • Maximize effective unit hours with timely log-ons, minimize chute times by moving with purpose, minimize scene times as per CCEMSA policy, and minimize hospital drop times with best efforts.
  • Adhere to all American Ambulance and CCEMSA protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Continually improve skills and knowledge base of pre-hospital medicine.
  • Care for equipment, vehicles and facilities as if they are your own.
  • Perform as exemplary employee at all times.
  • Responsible for completion and accuracy of all paperwork and computerized records.
  • Arrives to all work assignments on time, in the appropriate uniform, and with all appropriate certifications and credentials.
  • Assures all safety rules and guidelines are followed.
  • Maintains a Professional Appearance at all times when representing American Ambulance.
  • Attend all training and meetings as required.
  • Promote good morale by exhibiting exemplary conduct, a positive attitude, and support for all personnel and American Ambulance.
  • Treats all patients, patient's families and friends, health care agency personnel, and all members of the public with respect and professionalism.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Incoming age - 19 years
  • Current CCEMSA EMT Certification
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification - Provider or Instructor
  • Meets Operations Physical Fitness Test Standards
  • Current California Driver's License, must have possessed the DL for 2 years.
  • Current California Ambulance Driver Certificate
  • Current DOT Medical Examiner's Card
  • Meets insurability requirements for vehicle operation
  • Current Tuberculosis test (not required for hire)

Physical Demands
  • Strength Test
  • Lift 155 lbs. x 2 while maintaining control of the weight, proper lifting technique and foot position - simulates the strength/work required for one person lifting the head end of the gurney with a 250 lbs. patient.
  • Physical Agility Test
  • Carrying one piece of equipment in each hand (25 - 30 lbs. each), walk 100 yards which will include uneven terrain, a decline and an incline.
  • Complete two minutes of continuous CPR compressions, maintaining adequate rate and depth of compression (< three errors).
  • Pick up a barbell with 110 lbs., carry 20 yards forward and backward - simulates carrying a 200 lbs. patient.
Environmental Demands
  • Be able to work in temperatures with sudden changes

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position (preferred). Days and hours of work may vary as job duties demand. Shifts are typically 12 or 24 hours in duration. Work weeks are from 48 - 60 hours.

Travel
  • Must be able to travel to assigned posts throughout Kings and Fresno Counties. Kings County currently has 5 designated posts, and Fresno County has 11.
  • There may be occasional travel for conferences, seminars, and training.
