Job Description

Job Title

This position operates the platform scale to weigh all vehicles entering the transfer station area, maintains a variety of records, collects fees, and directs Transfer Station users in the proper disposal of recycling and waste streams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Operates the weigh station scale
• Greets and assists the public by providing quality customer service at the Scale House and in the yard
• Provides information to the public regarding disposal of waste including electronic items, household hazardous waste, recycling items and other waste streams
• Operates cash register and credit card machines
• Maintains records related to truck weights, material weight, number of cars and commercial vehicles accessing and utilizing the Transfer Stations and fees collected
• Performs other related duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to maintain a pleasant/personable demeanor with good communication and customer service skills
• Proficiency with data entry and ability to learn Windows-based PC Scale operating system
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team for operational efficiency
• Ability to read and follow safety procedures

Qualifications

Desired qualifications:

• Verifiable work record that demonstrates good attendance, established work ethic, ability to follow instructions and work well with others.
• Ability to obtain a Public Weighers License and Transfer Station Operator's Certificate

Schedule

Monday Saturday; hours fluctuate based on operational and seasonal needs; must have availability to work evenings and weekends as needed

Pay Range

$19 per hour upon hire; $21 per hour upon obtaining Public Weigher's License and Transfer Station Operator's Certificate

Affiliation

Non-Bargaining Unit, Part-Time Position; 19.5 hours or less
